Art Project of the Day: Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg’s “Flickr Flow” is a visual representation of the changes in color patterns in Flickr photos of Boston Common over the course of a single year, with the Summer months at the top, and time proceeding clockwise.

Viégas and Wattenberg explain:

Using an algorithm developed for the WIRED Anniversary visualization, our software calculated the relative proportions of different colors seen in photos taken in each month of the year, and plotted them on a wheel.
